(set: $teamEngagement to 12)<Audio-narration with available CC>
Hi, I'm Sunil Sharma.
Welcome to the Development Team! It’s nice to finally meet you. I've heard lots about your great work back at Head Office.
Congratulations on your promotion. I know that leading a remote team can be challenging, but don't worry, I'm here to support you.
You've got a great team. Here is a photo of all of us celebrating the end of our last project together.
This is //your// team now, and I'm sure you will be a great manager. Make sure to keep the team engaged. We don't want to lose anybody. We spend a great deal of time recruiting the best people.
As you lead them through the project, I'll track how they are doing with a Q12 Engagement Survey. I'll make sure to share the results with you every few weeks.
And please rest assured that the survey information will stay between you and I. It will help you improve your remote leading skills. It certainly helped me a lot when I was just beginning.
Ok, you are on your own now, but I'm always here to help. Call me if you need anything.
[[Hang-Up->First Meeting 1.0 Pt1]]How would you like to start the meeting?
[[Engage others and keep the chitchat going for a while longer.->Q1 - Choice-A Consequence (Best)]]
[[Ask for permission to start the meeting on time and get down to business. ->Q1 - Choice-B Consequence (Bad)]]
[[Let the chitchat continue in the background while you finish getting ready for the meeting.->Q1 - Choice-C Consequence (Worst)]]
[[Call Sunil Sharma->Q1 Mentor]]
You start the meeting on time sharing strategic aspects of the project, and explaining the key role of the team in its success.
Everyone seems to appreciate your clarity and transparency about the project goals and its strategic importance. The chat fills with "Thanks" and "This is very important information." But as the meeting continues, microphones remain mostly shut; nobody volunteers to say much beyond the messages in the chat.

(set: $teamEngagement to $teamEngagement -1)You ask Lucio about life in his new home in Portugal, and congratulate Anika on her fifth anniversary with the company.
Encouraged by Lucio's and Anika's stories, Mark shares the news of his newborn son, and Ben shows his recently earned climbing license. The team even agrees to create their own Slack channel to stay connected and talk about anything and everything.
[[->->Q1.A TE Report]]
(set: $teamEngagement to $teamEngagement + 2)You check that your phone is off, and stand up to close the door to your office.
Everyone is trying to share their stories, but they wonder if you are ok with all the chitchat and if it is appropriate to continue in your absence. Silence takes over, and you come back to an awkwardly quiet room with everybody waiting on you to know what to do next.

(set: $teamEngagement to $teamEngagement - 2)<Audio-Narration with available CC>
Hi, I heard that you scheduled your first meeting.
Remember that team members like to feel recognized by and connected to each other and the organization. Feeling "part of a family" helps them stay motivated and happy with their work.
For remote teams, finding opportunities to build connections is more difficult. As their manager, it is your task to create these opportunities.
Reserve 10 minutes at the beginning of any meeting for informal chat. Encourage small talk by following up on personal stories and highlighting personal and professional accomplishments.
And make sure to stay involved and be part of the conversation!It's time to launch the project and begin working with your team. People are starting to join the 9:00am EST kick-off meeting you planned.

While waiting for the meeting to begin, Mark opens his mic to say hello to Lori and her cat, Pishi. They joke and giggle about Pishi being the 7th member of the team and about other honorary titles the team has given Pishi in the past.
